Should Rumplestiltskin forgive his father?

Rumple’s father chose magic over his son — the magic of being able to fly and the freedom he thought that would bring, the magic of becoming a boy again without responsibilities. When Rumple became a father, he also chose magic over his own son — the magic of being the Dark One and the power he thought that would bring, the magic of getting back at those who had humiliated him.

And so the cycle perpetuated itself through the generations, just as cycles of abuse are often handed down from parent to child.

In Think Lovely Thoughts, Pan accused Rumple of being just like him. Rumple denied it, but I think Pan was at least partially right.

In the cave, Pan told Rumple that he never stopped thinking about him and that he cared about him. I think he was telling the truth. Pan had no motive that I can see to lie at that point — Pan had the real Pandora’s box and had nothing to fear from Rumple.

Should Rumple (assuming he escapes from the box) forgive Pan? I understand why he wouldn’t want to — but would Rumple be better off if he could forgive his father? Would he be more at peace, more able to leave the painful past behind him? Would achieving that peace improve Rumple’s relationship with Bae/Neal?

Forgiveness, people say, is good for the soul. Could forgiving his father help Rumple heal himself from the evil acts he committed in his Dark One days?

Or do you think that Pan’s deserting young Rumple is not forgivable? Or is Pan unforgivable in any case because he tricked Henry and intended to kill him?

What do you think? (No spoilers, please.)

No Once Upon a Time in Wonderland episode on Thanksgiving (Nov. 28, 2013)

turkeyThis Thursday, there won’t be a Once Upon a Time in Wonderland episode. Instead, in the Once-Wonderland timeslot, ABC will be showing A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, the traditional holiday special that has been on the air every year since 1973.

Earlier this week, I ran a poll asking if you would rather watch OUAT or Miley Cyrus. It was no surprise that the votes were VERY lopsided, with more than 98% saying they’d rather watch OUAT.

Here’s another poll, this one pitting Once-Wonderland against the Charlie Brown special. I think the vote may be closer this time, but let’s see how it turns out …

Once-Wonderland will be back on Dec. 5, 2013, with episode 1×07 Bad Blood.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

There’s no Once Upon a Time episode on November 24, 2013

Just a reminder that Once Upon a Time will not be broadcast on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, because the American Music Awards, which will probably feature some new intentionally scandalous performance by Miley Cyrus, will be taking up the time slot. Just for fun, I’m putting a little poll here, though I think we know which way the vote will go:

The next episode is 3×09 Save Henry, which will continue the Neverland saga, along with a Storybrooke flashbook that may clear up some mysteries that go all the way back to the beginning of Season 1. That will be broadcast on Dec. 1.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is also skipping a week, because of Thanksgiving, and will be back on Dec. 5.

Jafar takes a trip in OUAT-Wonderland 1×06 Who’s Alice (11/21/13)

Will this episode be as good as last week’s? Keeping fingers crossed. Meanwhile, there is more info about the episode after the jump (minor spoilers) Continue reading

Another long-awaited backstory on 3×09 Save Henry (Dec. 1, 2013)

3x09 Save Henry

There won’t be a Once Upon a Time episode on November 24, 2013, because it’s being pre-empted by the American Music Awards. So the next episode will be broadcast on December 1.

In the last episode, we saw a flashback about Rumplestiltskin’s childhood which answered many questions we have had. In this episode, there will be another flashback that will address questions we’ve been wondering about since early in Season 1. More after the jump (spoilers): Continue reading
