One year later …

Henry, looking a lot more grown up

Henry, looking a lot more grown up

I thought it was smart of the writers to set the action ahead one year. They needed to have some way to account for Gennifer’s pregnancy and Jared’s growth spurt.

I wonder how important the “missing year” will be, though, in subsequent episodes, whether they will be doing a lot of flashbacks to fill in what happened or if they will just go full steam ahead. I suspect that once they establish how and why the Wicked Witch gained control of Fairytale Land, whatever else happened the rest of that year may not be that important. (Though I would like to know how Emma got her zillion-dollar Manhattan apartment on a bailbondswoman’s salary. Just kidding. It’s the usual movie and TV fantasy apartment.)

OUAT special Sunday, March 9 at 7:00

Wicked Witch from promo

ABC will be airing a one-hour special called Wicked is Coming starting at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 — that’s right before the first post-break episode airs at 8:00.

The special will feature interviews with cast members and producers (and, presumably, lots of clips from past shows). The official description: “The special will take a look at the role that family plays in the show, our heroes’ journey from breaking the curse to the ramifications of magic in our world, travelling to Neverland to save Henry from an evil Peter Pan, and their upcoming battle with The Wicked Witch of the West.”

The narrator is Dan Stevens from Downtown Abbey (which I still haven’t seen yet!).

The long (very long!) version of the press release is copied verbatim after the jump. (contains some spoilers) Continue reading

Once Upon a Time is Coming Back on Sunday — How Many Cliffhanger Questions Will Be Answered?

Emma saying goodbye, at the end of the last episode.

Emma saying goodbye, at the end of the last episode.

Just a reminder that Once Upon a Time is returning from its very long winter break on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 8 p.m. The first post-hiatus episode will be 3×12 New York City Serenade.

As you may recall from the last episode, the show left us with a bunch of cliff-hangers and unanswered questions:

Will Emma recognize Hook? If she does, will she remember everything?

What was Hook trying to tell Emma? He said her family was in trouble — what kind of trouble?

How did Hook get back to our world anyway?

Why are Emma and Henry living in New York? Why are they listening to the same song that NealBae had on his iPod when he was in New York (at the start of Season 2)?

Did Storybrooke really disappear? If so, will it ever come back?

Did everyone (besides Emma and Henry) really go back to Fairy Tale Land? If so, what were things like there?

And of course …

Is Rumplestiltskin really dead? Is Pan?

I’m trying to remain mostly unpsoiled for the episode, but if you want to see some sneak peek photos, ABC has put some up.

Is Rumplestiltskin dead or alive? and other spoilers for OUAT episode 3×12 New York Serenade

When OUAT comes back on March 9, 2014, after the winter hiatus, there will be a new character (who you have already seen if you watched the promo at the end of the last episode). For more about this character, some info on the second half of the season as a whole, and a hint about whether or not Rumple is really dead …. see after the jump (warning: spoilers) Continue reading

Reminder: No Once Upon a Time episode on December 22, 2013 — show won’t be back until March 9, 2014

Pilot episode snowy mountains

Episode 3×11 Going Home broadcast on Sunday Dec. 15, 2013 was the OUAT winter finale. The show is now on hiatus until March 9, 2014, when it will return with episode 3×12 New York Serenade. The reason there is such a long break this year is that it enables the show to air with fewer of the annoying, random breaks that we’ve seen in the past. When OUAT comes back, it will run straight through till the season finale. What do you think? Do you think the break is too long, or do you think it’s better to do it this way?
