Enhanced rerun of “The Miller’s Daughter”

This is the enhanced rerun version of episode 2×16 The Miller’s Daughter, one of the best episodes of OUAT ever. Robert Carlyle outdoes himself here, giving a nuanced, spellbinding performance (no pun intended) as Rumpelstiltskin falling in love with the young Cora (Rose McGowan) while teaching her how to perform dark magic, and as RumpelGold, believing he is on his deathbed, saying goodbye to Belle and reconciling with Nealfire. (continued, and video, after the jump)

The rerun was broadcast on April 7, 2013, and the episode originally aired on March 10, 2013. The “enhancements” consist of text comments that appear in a purple box on the bottom of the screen. Almost all of the comments, like those in the previous week’s enhanced rerun of Queen of Hearts, were used just to fill in information from earlier episodes that long-time OUAT viewers would most likely already know.

But there was one comment this time that caught my attention. When Prince Henry (King Xavier’s son) first appeared on screen, the text box said, “This is Prince Henry, who will eventually sire Regina.” That seemed to put a damper on the theory (which I had liked very much) that Regina’s father was really Rumpelstiltskin.

  1. Maybe Rumple came to Cora looking like the prince on her wedding night. Nobody ever breaks a deal with Rumple. I think it was the episode Stable Boy where Rumple met Regina for the first time (supposedly) and said he knew her when she was a smaller package. Something happened to Cora. She was in a royal court. Then she ended up being married to Henry a land owner the man Regina killed to enable the dark curse. There is more to the back story of Cora.

“Maybe Rumple came to Cora looking like the prince …” I hope so! I’d really like Rump to be Regina’s father. And his being in disguise like that, with Cora thinking he was someone else, would be like something straight out of Shakespeare.

I had originally thought that Rumple and Cora made love on the night before Cora’s wedding, after Rumple said, “Let’s seal the deal” — and that that was the night that Regina was conceived. Everyone else in their world would have thought the father was Henry, but it wouldn’t be. I hate to let that theory go … but if the on-screen comment said the Prince sired Regina, it has to be so, right? I mean, the comments aren’t canon, but i don’t think the producers would let something in there that was blatantly wrong on such an important point.

But you’re right that nobody breaks a deal with Rumple. I’m very curious to see how this is going to work out.

Are you saying that Prince Henry and the man Regina killed might not have been the same person? Hmmm ….

  3. Is it just me or does Rose McGowan look EXACTLY like Lindsay Lohan these days. They must have the same plastic surgeon. :)

  4. Rumpelstiltskin IS NOT Regina’s father. Just accept it. Please!!!
