Any significance to the license plate number on the car that hit Hook?

The car that hit Hook at the end of “The Outsider” had a Pennsylvania license plate, number 2KFL138. What do you think the significance, if any, is of that state and number?

  1. Emma Swan’s boyfriend had to cross the border to Canada. Pennsylvania does have a small area of border shared with Canada. ?? Perhaps?

  2. The person driving the car, according to next week’s preview will be Dr. Frankenstein.

    • We already learned that Dr. Whale is Dr. Frankenstein.

    • How can that be? Won’t there be some weird quantum breakdown if the two should meet in SB?

    • There’s a screenshot here (scroll down) from the preview of the person who (I think) was driving the car. He looks sort of like Frankenstein/Whale, but not really. Take a look and see what you think. Also the actor credited for playing the outsider is not the actor who plays Frankenstein/Whale.

    • I saw the promo, doesn’t look like Dr Frankenstein. Besides the rest of the promo has the stranger lying in a hospital bed wanting to be killed by Dr Whale/Dr Frankenstein. I figure Whale needs some fresh body parts. Anyone figure out why EQ’s curse called him Dr Whale?

  3. Penn = Philly = City of Brotherly Love – someone’s brother or brotherly relations, guessing Frankenstein ‘monster’ could have something to do with it considering the previews.
Eg: Bean Town (Boston) – magic beans – (Emma, crossing worlds)
& Manhattan = the Big [Poison] Apple

  4. 2KFL – Took flight or 2Kid for life
    138 – one through it???

  5. To kill for love?

  6. Might just be an out of state plate…

  7. 2KFL could refer to Took Flight, as in Peter Pan, and the 138 could refer to chapters 13-18 of The Little White Bird (the first appearance of Peter Pan), which was later published as Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.

  8. Although I cannot figure out the “brotherly love” license plate other than my guess is “to kill for love” but not sure of 138. Since the next episode will be about Dr. Whale (a.k.a Dr. Victor Frankenstein) and since Dr. Whale received help from Mr. Gold who reattached his torn arm by magic, this could very well be Dr. Whale/Dr. Frankenstein helping Mr. Gold while at the same time while attaining more dead body parts to complete his experiments as he is known for reconstructing people from parts of different bodies, particularly the use of a magic heart to bring people back to life. Dr. Frankenstein is a business associate of both Rumplestiltskin and the Mad Hatter.

  9. ….on the other hand what if the car that hit Hook, stopping Gold from using magic to destroy Hook (because Belle couldn’t stop him this time) could have been his son, Baelfire. He was sent to a world without magic via the magic bean.

  10. But the car came from behind Gold/Rumple, that’s outside the town limits. I don’t think Dr.Whale/Frankenstein would have been outside and if he had, he would be just Dr. Whale now. Rumple was the only one to have figured out the potion that we know.

    • They said we wouldn’t see Peter Pan this season. They did not say we wouldn’t see someone who exists in the non-magical world, who may in fact be Peter Pan in another world. Peter Pan visited the non-magical world often, perhaps he became trapped or stayed (after all, there was a movie based on this premise before).

  11. 2KFL-138 backwards is
831lfk2 which could be read as
    Beil fk2
    Baelfire ?

    • That was also my first theory, xD been trying to know if k2 could mean fire in someway xD something came up in google about 2k flames… dunno if could mean something, haven’t dig that deeeper, but i love those riddles in the end of episodes keeps us entretaind while waiting for more =P

  12. The outsider is operated on by Dr Whale, so it can’t be him.

  13. In the previews for the next episode, the driver of the car looked kind of like the guy who was in love with Charming’s first wife, who left Storybrooke…

  14. I parsed it out as:
    2K = 2,000
    FL138 = “FLIES”

Googled “2000 flies disney” and was surprised to find this:

    http://www.hiddenmickeys.org/disneyland/secrets/general/general.html

Go to item 60. According to this site, they released 2000 small flies at Disneyland to rid the park of a bigger fly problem. Even if it has nothing to do with the show, it’s still really interesting.

That said, whoever or whatever was driving the car got off to a good start solving problems.

  15. It could be Igor, right? The helper of dr. Frankenstein….

  16. I was thinking that Hook could actually be Baelfire.
We have no clue of which world he fell in when he tries to take his father with him.
Maybe he fell in a world with time disturbance which made him grow faster. And as we can observ even in a world “withou” magic, magic can still be bring in.
Moreover, when Hook is getting beaten as hell by Stiltskin he keeps shoutingv stuff like “general truth” on his opponant, things that he actually is not supposed to know, and I don’t really think that Cora told him every little thing about Rumpel.

I think the car is Emma’s ex boyfriend’s. The close up on the license plate is an hint for sure, but i think it lasts that long as a reminder like “hey, we’ve seen that before haven’t we?” and that’s probably in the flashback of Emma & her boyfriend’s life, it’s the only episode with car stories.

    What do you think?

(sorry for my english, i’m french)

    • But Hook was in a relationship with Rumple’s wife….aka Baelfire’s mother….

    • There is no way Baelfire can be Hook as Hook was in love with Gold’s wife who is Baelfire’s mother. So unless they are making some really wired stuff (which they are not) you genrally pay no attention or missed an entire episode. An episode which i believe was the best yet :/.

  17. I think the dummy MUST be from Philly!! LOL who else would drive into Storybrooke??

  18. With regard to 138, I was thinking it might refer to Shakespeare’s 138th sonnet:

When my love swears that she is made of truth,
I do believe her though I know she lies,
That she might think me some untutored youth,
Unlearned in the world’s false subtleties.
Thus vainly thinking that she thinks me young,
Although she knows my days are past the best,
Simply I credit her false-speaking tongue,
On both side thus is simple truth suppressed.
But wherefore says she not she is unjust?
And wherefore say not I that I am old?
O love’s best habit is in seeming trust,
And age in love loves not to have years told.
Therefore I lie with her, and she with me,
And in our faults by lies we flattered be.

Considering the liars that Neil and Emma used to be, I think it’s quite possible that Sonnet 138 is relevant to their relationship. When I saw 2kfl, the first thing I thought of was “Two kings for life,” but I like the “two kids for life” thing that people on this forum are talking about. Two kids for life who fell in love over their mutual dishonesty, whose bodies are much older now.

    • So far, this is my favorite theory. I love this. Completely perfect and it would make sense since Neil received the post card in the beginning of the season. I have been waiting for him to come. It better be him.

  19. I reckon Emma s old boyfriend is Bae

  20. It’s from Pennsylvania. Storybrooke is in Connecticut… It’s an outsider finally finding Storybrooke. That was what everyone was worried about in Granny’s Cafe, right?

  21. I really don’t think that Neil is Baelfire. When Pinnochio pulled Neil aside back in season 1 and told him to back off, it didn’t seem like he really believed in magic or anything until Pinnochio showed him whatever that was in the box. I think it’s much more likely that Baelfire is simply Peter Pan, a boy who prizes bravery (being the son of a coward), has a fairy friend (the blue fairy gave him the bean), and who perhaps took the opportunity to not grow any older, knowing that his father doesn’t age either.

Personally, I’d rather meet Baelfire in Neverland. It would explain why Hook always wanted to kill a kid, and it would explain why Hook was pointedly speculating about why Baelfire ran away in the first place.

  22. The license plate could mean
“To Kill For Life” Which is what Dr. Frankenstein did.
    Not sure about the 138

  23. Whatever it means I know one thing, Pennsylvania doesn’t have plates on the front of vehicles, only the back.

  24. I’m in PA. Our tags do not look exactly like that. They always end in 4 numbers. The tag number is important, but we do not know why just yet.

    • Also, I think it should be noted that this is a pretty old tag. We’ve had a newer design for quite a while. This might say something about the age of the outsider.

    • they can if you get a vanity plate. as long as it is no longer than 7 characters….standard PA plates are a series of 3 Alpha followed by 4 Numeric characters

  25. It was Kruella Deville since she is the only Disney character I know who ended the show with a car crash. This will certainly piss off Pongo.

  26. I hope it’s either Henry’s dad or maybe pinnochio aka August :)

  27. “Dr. Whale is tasked with mending Hook’s wounds and performing surgery on the stranger whose car crashed upon entering Storybrooke.” I have no idea who the stranger might be but this just proves that it is not Dr. Whale/ Victor Frankenstein. I really hope that this is a character that we have met along the way and has been lost but in saying that I do not believe that this is the case. New characters are introduced quite frequently so why cant one be introduced again? especially seeing as though we have just had the reuniting of Archie back with his friends, so the directors would be making a poor decision, creatively, in giving us 2 reunions so close together. Also it seems as though there is a pattern with introducing new characters and the last set of new characters would’ve been Mulan, Philip and Aurora which was over 9 episodes ago.

  28. 2KFL may relate to the Tammar Willaby Protein. In that nuclear proteins are the building blocks for the human body and next week’s show will involve Dr.Whale/Frankenstein. The 138 could signify a derivative or a radical of that protein.

  29. Have you seen the preview? You can see the man in the car… Anyone thinks it’s the same actor from the episode of Emma’s ex-boyfriend? I couldn’t tell…

  30. Hi. This is your blog proprietor here. I’ve put up a new post about the mystery of the car’s driver. I pulled together all the clues I could find — maybe you can find some more: Who is driving the car that hits Hook at the end of The Outsider?

  31. The license plate number on Emma’s VW is 836-M4X. They showed that pretty prominently in the series pilot (just as they showed the license plate number in The Outsider prominently in this week’s episode), but then nothing ever came of it. Do you think there could be any significance to the two license plates, considered together? Do you see any patterns? Or have my years watching LOST conditioned me to look for patterns in numbers where none may exist, LOL?

So .. it’s 836-M4X (Emma) and 2KFL-138 (outsider). Can anyone see anything there? And just in case any of this is a LOST shout-out (though that seems to be a long shot), the LOST numbers (to refresh our memories) were 4 8 15 16 23 42.

Another thought: The outsider’s plate has a 7 number/letter combination. Could it be a phone number???

  32. Also, thinking about Pennsylvania and the various locations we’ve seen in the show …. Cassady (in the Season 2 premiere) was in Manhattan. Emma, in the series pilot, was in Boston. Storybrooke, of course, is in Maine. Does anyone remember where Emma and Cassady were when they were together? Has there ever been any mention at all of Pennsylvania before?

  33. I agree that the 2KFL is for To Kill for Love. I believe the 138 refers to the Shakespeare’s Sonnet 138. It fits.

  34. Has anyone ever mentioned why Dr. Whale is aka Dr. Frankenstein’s alter-ego? The 1931 classic film starring Boris Karloff was directed by James Whale! So was the sequel (which many feel is the superior film) “Bride of Frankenstein”.

  35. fl138 is an amino acid molecule in mouse and rat dna.
    2k, 2000
    2000 rats/mice… pied piper?

  36. Has anyone considered 138 police code. Meaning drunk and disorderly conduct.

  37. I think it could be rumples son?

  38. Okay. So let’s think for a second.

Here are our theories so far:
    -Dr. Whale/Frankenstein
    -Peter Pan
    -Neil
    -Baelfire
    -Pied Piper

1- Dr. Whale: In the synopsis for the next episode, we see that Dr. Whale is the one operating on the outside so he’s not an option.

2- Peter Pan: This is a possible option although they mentioned already that we would not be seeing Peter Pan in this season. This is a maybe.

3- Neil: This is possible although, if you watch the promo, they mention not recognizing him or never seeing him before. You’d think Emma would recognize the guy she had a baby with.

4- Baelfire: This is a major possibility although the odds that he shows up just as his father is going to look for him are pretty slim. Of all the options though, I’d give this the highest rating for possibility.

5- Pied Piper: I saw this theory above and really liked it. A lot. It make sense from the information they gave about mice DNA and what not.

For those who are still unsure, the license plate # was 2KFL-138. I’ve thought about a few possibilities but if you have any other ideas, reply and let me know. I’m interested to see how all of this pans out.

  39. Hey, it’s impossible that outsider it’s Neal because, Neal reappear only on episode 14 of the season. See on panel at the end of this page : http://onceuponatime.wikia.com/wiki/Neal_Cassidy

  40. I do not think whether it is the brother of Dr. whale / frankenstein because in the trailer, he said to snow white to let him die. But I remain puzzled the whole episode revolves around Dr. whale / frankenstein why not?!

    Sorry fot orthograph, i’m french.

  41. What about the year Henry was born wasn’t it 2000. And Florida was where Henry’s dad wanted to go.

  42. ABC has released the name of the driver! (warning: post at that link contains several spoilers about an upcoming episode)

    • Hi, Stephanie. I moved your comment over to the “Tiny” thread in case some people reading this thread don’t want to be spoiled with the character’s name. I also answered you there — I think you’re really onto something!!

  43. Pennsylvania -> Transylvania??? Maybe that’s the connection? I bet money it is his brother. I’m trying to guess a significants in breaking down the license plate, so far all I can think is 2K would be 2 thousand, FL138 idk though.

  44. I think it is Rumple’s son who also happens to be Peter Pan but maybe has amnesia or doesn’t reveal his Identity unti next season. The Brother Love license tag has to do with his “Lost boys” being like his brothers and the letters and numbers refer to his flying power.

    • They writers said that we will not see Peter Pan, at least not this season. So chances are he is not Peter Pan. More than likely due to the preview for next week he is Dr. Whale’s brother.

  45. I didn’t do a lot of research, but my first guess was it could’ve been Emma’s old boyfriend (I’m blanking on the name)

  46. Greg Mendel was a scientist who was called “The Founder of Genetics”.

  47. I’m probably clutching at straws here but:

    Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde

    2 = 2 Personalities
KFL translated into numbers is 11 6 12
    11 + 6 = 17, Robert Louis Stevenson’s House Number
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was his 12th short story.
138 is the amount of pages there were in the first edition of the book.

    2KFL – 138.

I expect that all of that was just me trying to make it fit – but if I’m right then he probably came from Whale’s land?
