Info on Season 2 episode 5 “The Doctor”

Episode 5 is called “The Doctor.” Could this be the episode that finally reveals the identity of Dr. Whale? The network isn’t saying, but Dr. Whale is listed among the guest stars, so make of that what you will.

Official description and list of guest stars after the jump (spoilers):

While Regina continues to try and stop using her magic in an attempt to win back Henry’s affections, she begins seeing what she believes is a ghost from her past.

When Mary Margaret and Emma discover a lone survivor from an ogre massacre, Emma begins to question whether or not he’s telling the truth.

Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Regina finds herself failing at learning the dark arts from a dark master because something from her past is preventing her from using her magic for evil.

Guest stars:

Raphael Sbarge as Archie Hopper/Jiminy Cricket
David Anders as Dr. Whale
Colin O’Donoghue as Killian Jones/Hook (second appearance)
Sarah Bolger as Aurora
Jamie Chung as Mulan
Noah Bean as man (He played Daniel last season in The Stable Boy, but for this episode, he is mysteriously listed in the credits on the ABC press release simply as “man.”)
Sebastian Stan as Jefferson
Yurij Kis as assistant (new)
Paula Giroday as Trish (new)

The episode was written by show creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and directed by Paul Edwards.

  1. Just had a thought — maybe the ogre is Dr. Whale!

  2. Interesting thought…but all I want to know is what happened to August?!! I’m dying to know

  3. I thought that the ogre was attacking them in present time just in a different world. i guess we will have to see.

  4. I’m going to go with the theory that Dr. Whale is Peter Pan. Crazy? Probably.
Do I have a reason to believe that?
Well…what is the one thing Peter didn’t want to become? A grown-up….right?
Also, the previews/spoilers depict Capt. Hook.
Peter was always ready to fight! Fight the pirates…fight the grown-ups! Fight responsibility! — Content to live in Neverland.
Most certainly NEVER grow up !!!!
His actions in SB were an immature response to the over complexities of adulthood without consequence…..KILL THE QUEEN !!!
Of course I’m probably wrong……I’ve been wrong most of the time…so I’m ok with that.
But omg…..what a horrible curse!!! He never wanted to grow up, and the one thing he held most dear (freedom and no commitments) is the one thing some evil queen cursed him into………
A livelihood of MASSIVE responsibility (a doctor) and the hormonal urges of adulthood.
(of course, I’m most likely wrong)

    .

  5. I just saw the promo and Dr Whale lost his arm. Regina goes to the Asylum and finds an empty surgery bed. all that is left is an arm. that would explain the green screen arm that David Anders is whereing the pictures. now for my theory behind that. Daniel is going to be frankenstien’s monster. In storybrook precurse he was put in the Asylum. Now he has escaped and went to look for his creator to try to kill him just like in the real Franky story. I wonder who else is coming out of that Asylum. I know for sure that Sydney is there. Any thoughts?

  6. I enjoyed the episode very much, but . . . the sequences in present day Enchanted Forest seemed out of place.
